Visit Malaysia 2026 Countdown Festival

Commissioned by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia, the Countdown Festival was developed as a flagship national moment to officially launch Visit Malaysia 2026. Designed as a pan-Asian New Year celebration and tourism branding platform, the event transformed Kuala Lumpur into a large-scale immersive city experience, with Bukit Bintang as the central festival district.

Overview

The campaign welcomed 50,000+ on-site attendees and reached millions of viewers across Asia and beyond, positioning Malaysia as a leading cultural and tourism destination.

Objectives

To officially launch Visit Malaysia 2026 through a large-scale national celebration in Kuala Lumpur, while delivering a safe and seamless public event experience. The project aimed to position Malaysia as a leading cultural and tourism destination in Asia, creating a shared pan-Asian countdown experience supported by regional media and digital amplification.

Challenge

Delivering a large-scale urban event within just one month required rapid event planning, production and stakeholder coordination. The project involved transforming a high-density commercial district into a safe, controlled festival environment while managing crowd flow, traffic, government stakeholders, sponsors, performers and media partners. The challenge was to elevate a local New Year celebration into a pan-Asian tourism and destination marketing experience for Visit Malaysia 2026.

Strategy

We transformed the countdown celebration into a city-scale tourism and destination marketing experience, turning Bukit Bintang into an immersive festival district. The strategy combined urban event design, crowd management, experiential technology, cultural programming and regional digital activation—from multi-node event zoning and LED façades to drone displays, synchronized visuals, pan-Asian performances, KOLs, media and digital campaigns.

Execution

Pre-Event Activation

Multi-city event activations, cultural pop-ups, festive markets, and regional influencer engagement built early awareness and anticipation across Asia, creating momentum ahead of the live event.

Main Event — 31 December 2025

Rather than staging a countdown within the city, we turned the city itself into the stage. Bukit Bintang was transformed into a fully pedestrianized festival district, combining live entertainment, immersive event production, synchronized LED projections, drone choreography, and a spectacular fireworks finale into one seamless urban experience.

Post-Event Extension

Digital content, media amplification, and KOL storytelling extended the event experience across Asia for a week beyond the countdown — turning a one-night celebration into a powerful destination marketing and audience engagement campaign for Malaysia.

Results

The large-scale live event and experiential marketing campaign brought together 50,000+ on-site attendees and 14.5 million online viewers, reaching audiences across 30+ countries in Asia and beyond.

Through integrated event marketing, digital amplification, social media engagement, and international media coverage, the campaign generated 10,000+ social posts and 2,074 media articles, achieving 1.06 billion total media reach and RM17.13 million in digital PR value. With an additional RM2.18 million in offline and OOH media value, delivering 52 million impressions, the event extended far beyond the physical venue to become a high-impact destination marketing and brand experience platform for Malaysia.

Key Takeaway

This project demonstrates our capability to deliver nation-scale, government-led experiential campaigns that integrate event production, urban transformation, and tourism branding.

From city-wide crowd engineering to pan-Asian storytelling and multi-platform amplification, the Countdown Festival successfully positioned Visit Malaysia 2026 as a shared regional cultural moment—setting a new benchmark for large-scale destination marketing experiences in Asia.
